I had Delta Dental insurance for 9 months and it was exactly like having no inssurance at all, only more trouble. They refused a valid claim twice, even thougb I made numerous calls to them to straighten it out. I finally just paid ther dentist myself.
Everyone who is rating delta dental 1 or 2 stars is an idiot. All dental procedures have guidelines, if your idiot dentist was unaware of the guidelines and something wasn’t paid out- it’s their fault. If you scheduled a cleaning a week before the 6 mo to the day mark, it’s your fault. Benefits are what they are if something is covered great, if it’s not- it’s not. It’s your responsibility to call your insurance to see if something is covered or not and know your benefits before you agree to getting a major service done. The reps I’ve interacted with have been respectful and thorough, if you’re rude to a rep and don’t get the response you want to hear that does not justify a negative review.

After approving the dentist's submitted treatment plan for a 4 quadrant deep cleaning, they reneged on paying, making the claim after the fact that the procedure had to be done on 2 separate days--something they didn't mention to the dentist or me. Delta Dental MA refused to pay after approving the treatment plan.
They refused to escalate this or allow me to file an appeal.
This company will get out of paying a claim anyway they can. DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM THEM! It's throwing money away!
This is the absolute worst- basically a rip-off. The service reps. are rude, either intentionally misinform or flat out lie., some cannot be understood at all because they speak broken English. I purchased it, and was later told that it was the wrong plan. I was diligent in double checking with Delta and my Dentist. Nevertheless, I was informed by my Dentist that they did not accept the plan after my visit; and I had to fully pay out of pocket for a procedure that actually would have been covered. After having been hung up on, misinformed, lied to ("we don't have supervisors.") ad nauseum... I finally got an "ombudsman" who swore she would fix it quickly. Four months later I was still getting the runaround. There was a different story every time, including getting reproached and accused of being responsible for this myself. "I should have known." Finally I was told it was in "Tech" support. Apparently the Ombudsman put next years date on the policy and it could not be fixed. Ultimately, I gave up and asked for my premium to be returned. I wouldn't take it for free. They cost me a fortune in time. And as we know, corporations carelessly take and waste our precious time as though it were worthless.
I subscribed for the Delta Dental MA personal plan when my wife's work stopped offering dental insurance. The coverage and rates seemed fine. However, the customer service was abominable. It is almost impossible to pay using credit card, including an HSA card. Their online member site is a mess. I tried several times to get it set up, but it would never work. I called to tell them and there was some sort of glitch that froze my online account. They said they would call back. Never did. Tried again ... same thing. So I gave up trying. That was a problem when I tried to cancel the insurance. I went through the steps of sending a letter to cancel the insurance. Even called them to tell them (which you have to do but it does which they do not tell you that must do). Thought that was it. But no. Despite being told by customer service that I did not owe them anything and that I should ignore their bills, I kept getting bills. I guess you end up having to pay 30 days ahead. When I called again they explained this. I hoped to use my HSA, but they don't accept credit cards over the phone. Only over the online account. Very disappointing and time consuming to do basic things. I would not recommend Delta Dental of Mass.
